🔔 Overview
Push notifications in the Inspect Point iOS app help technicians stay informed about important updates to their scheduled work, building notes, and inspections sent back for corrections.
Notifications appear directly on a technician's iPhone or iPad, allowing them to stay up to date without needing to open the app or contact the office.
Technicians can receive notifications when:
- An inspection or service visit is assigned, rescheduled, or removed.
- A new note is added to a building they are scheduled to visit.
- An inspection is sent back for correction with issues requiring correction (Inspection Assistant required for this notification).
Tapping a notification opens the relevant visit, building notes, or inspection in the app. Technicians can also customize which types of notifications they receive.
Notifications appear on the lock screen, the banner, and while using the application.
✅ Requirements
To receive push notifications, the following requirements must be met:
- App Version: Technicians must be on version 10.8.6 or later of the Inspect Point iOS app.
- Feature Enablement: Push notifications must be enabled for your company. Contact your Customer Success Manager or Inspect Point Support (support@inspectpoint.com) to enable.
- Device Permissions: Notifications must be allowed for Inspect Point in the device's iOS settings.
- Signed In: Technicians must be signed in to the Inspect Point app to receive notifications.
For instructions on enabling notifications or managing your preferences, see How to Enable and Manage Push Notifications.
📱 Types of Push Notifications
There are three types of push notifications available in the Inspect Point iOS app. Each notification directs the technician to the relevant information when tapped.
| Notification Type | When It's Sent | What Opens |
|---|---|---|
| Job Assigned or Changed | An inspection or service visit for today or tomorrow is assigned, rescheduled, or removed. | The relevant visit |
| New Building Note | A note is added to a building where the technician has a visit scheduled for today or tomorrow. | The building's notes |
| Inspection Sent Back (AI Inspection Assistant) | An inspection is returned to a technician for correction with items requiring correction. | The Inspection Assistant review screen, displaying the issues to correct. |
For a full breakdown of the available push notification types, see Types of Push Notifications.
Note: On Fridays, schedule and building note notifications extend through Monday. Inspections sent back for corrections are not limited to this scheduling window.
⚙️ Additional Information
Notification Language — Push notifications are delivered in the technician's preferred language. English is used by default. The preferred language can be updated in either of the following locations:
- Backend: Navigate to Settings Technicians, edit the technician's profile, and select their preferred language.
- iOS App: Change the app language. The technician's language preference updates automatically.
Using Multiple Devices — Push notifications are sent to the most recent iPhone or iPad the technician signed in on. If a technician signs in on another device, notifications begin going to the new device and stop on the previous one.
Signing Out — When a technician signs out of the Inspect Point app, push notifications to that device stop. If the technician signs out while offline, notifications stop once the device reconnects. Notification preferences are saved and remain in place when the technician signs back in.
Opening a Notification — If you're not actively using the app, tap the notification on your device's screen or in Notification Center to open the relevant information directly in Inspect Point. When a push notification appears while you're using the Inspect Point iOS app, you can choose to:
- View: Tap the notification to open the associated visit or information.
- Dismiss: Close the notification and continue working without interrupting your current visit.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why didn't I receive a notification for a visit scheduled next week?
A: Schedule change and building note notifications only apply to visits scheduled for today or tomorrow. On Fridays, this window extends through Monday. Changes outside this window will appear in the technician's schedule after the next sync but will not trigger a push notification.
Q: Why did my notification arrive a few minutes after the change?
A: Schedule change notifications are briefly delayed so multiple updates can be grouped into a single notification. This helps reduce unnecessary alerts when the office makes several scheduling changes at once.
Q: Why doesn't a building note notification display the actual note?
A: Building notes may contain sensitive information, such as access codes or alarm instructions. To protect this information, the notification only displays the building name and the person who added the note. Tap the notification to view the full note in the app.
Q: Can office staff receive push notifications?
A: Not at this time. Push notifications are currently available only for technicians using the Inspect Point iOS app.
Q: Can I choose which push notifications I receive?
A: Yes! All three notification types are enabled by default, but technicians can turn individual notification types on or off in the app under Settings Push Notifications.
