Secondary Items are the individual records that live within a Primary System (the Systems, Assets, or Groups already set up at the building). Examples include alarm devices, valves, control panels, or other components inspected as part of that system.
These items can be added directly from the Inspect Point mobile app while performing an inspection, allowing technicians to document and inspect items found on-site that weren't included with the scheduled inspection.

You can use this process to add items such as:
- Valves
- Fire Extinguishers
- Fire Alarm Devices
- Control Panels
- E-Lights/Exit Signs
- Special Hazard Devices
- Equipment & Components
- Fire Dampers
- Other supported secondary items
Note: The fields displayed when creating a new item vary depending on the item type.
📱 Add a Secondary Item
Before you begin adding secondary items, the inspection must already be open on your mobile device.
Step 1: Navigate to the correct section of the inspection
Open the inspection and navigate to the section where you'd like to add the item(s).
Examples include:
- Fire Alarm System > Alarm Devices
- Sprinkler System > Valves
- Fire Extinguisher Group
- Equipment List
Step 2: Tap the + button
Tap the blue + button located in the bottom-right corner of the screen. This button is used throughout the iOS mobile app to create new records.
⚠️ Important: Previously, the + button was located at the top right of the screen, this has been moved throughout the mobile app.
Step 3: Enter the item details
Complete the available fields for the new item. Depending on the type, this may include information such as:
- Location
- Description
- Manufacturer
- Model
- Size
- Serial Number
- Type
- Other item-specific details
Step 4: Save the item
Once you've entered the required information, click Save.
The item is now available for inspection, will remain associated with the primary system, and all of the information and details will be there for the next inspection.
