đź“… Generic Events Overview
Generic Events allow your team to schedule and track non-building-specific tasks directly on the Calendar. This feature provides a flexible way to assign internal activities, technician responsibilities, and general appointments—without requiring all scheduled items to be tied to a building. Generic Events introduces a dedicated, structured way to manage these activities.
Generic Events must be enabled by a member of the Inspect Point team before use. If interested, reach out to your Customer Success Manager. Once enabled, the option to add Generic Events will appear on the backend Calendar.
✨ What Are Generic Events?
Generic Events are flexible appointments that can be created and assigned directly from the backend Calendar. These events appear on the backend Calendar and on the technician’s mobile app, ensuring everyone sees the correct schedule—whether the event is tied to a building or not.
🧩 Types of Generic Events
Generic Events support multiple layers to cover a wide range of real-world needs:
1. On-Call Events - Used to designate which technician is on call during a specific time frame.
2. General Meetings & Trainings - Great for internal meetings, safety training, or company events.
3. Generic Visits With Location Details - Used when a technician needs to visit a site—but not one stored in Inspect Point. You can include a location, notes, and any relevant specifics for the visit.
📌 When to Use Generic Events
Generic Events are ideal when you need to:
- Schedule internal tasks
- Track technician availability
- Assign responsibilities unrelated to inspections or work orders
- Record activities requiring a technician's time
- Maintain visibility for field and office teams
đź› Key Capabilities
Generic Events support full lifecycle management—from creation, to visibility, to deletion.
1. Create & View Generic Events From the Calendar
Once enabled, users can create a Generic Event directly from the backend Calendar.
After creation, events display on the Calendar like inspections and work orders, making it easy for dispatchers and office teams to manage workflows.
2. Recurrence Options
Generic Events support recurring schedules with the following frequencies: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly
3. Technician Visibility in the Mobile App
Assigned technicians will see Generic Events on their mobile Calendar, giving them a complete picture of their upcoming day—even when an activity isn’t tied to a customer or building.
5. Delete a Generic Event
Backend users with the appropriate permissions can delete Generic Events from the Calendar. Deleting removes the event from all assigned technicians' calendars as well.
