📋 Overview
Technicians can now take a system, asset, or group off an inspection right from the Inspect Point iOS app, without calling the office. Swipe on the item in the inspection list and pick one of two actions:
- Deactivate when the item is gone from the building for good (removed, replaced, or out of service). The item is marked inactive and stops showing up on future inspections.
- Remove from Inspection when the item is still in the building but doesn't belong on this inspection. The item stays active on the building.
✅ Before You Start
-
Feature Enablement — The Deactivate action is not enabled by default. Contact your Customer Success Manager or Inspect Point Support, support@inspectpoint.com to enable this feature.
- The Remove from Inspection action is available automatically in iOS version 10.8.5 or later.
-
App Version — Both actions require Inspect Point iOS version 10.8.5 or later.
- Version 10.8.6 introduces a banner at the top of the systems list to help technicians discover the swipe actions.
-
Supported Items — Both swipe actions are available for top-level systems, assets, and groups only.
- Secondary items, such as devices, valves, and extinguishers, can be deactivated individually but are not included in these top-level swipe actions.
🚫 How to Deactivate an Item
- Starting on the mobile app, tap to start an inspection.
- Swipe left on the system, asset, or group.
- Tap Deactivate.
- Confirm, then enter the reason the item is being deactivated. A reason is required.
- The item shows as inactive in the list. Finish the inspection and send the visit to the office as usual.
To Reactivate an Item
Deactivated by mistake? Tap the inactive item in the inspection list to reactivate it. The item goes back to active on the building.
➖ How to Remove an Item from This Inspection
- Starting on the mobile app, tap to start an inspection.
- Swipe left on the system, asset, or group.
- Tap Remove from Inspection.
- The item comes off the list right away. No reason is needed.
- Save or send the visit to the office as usual. The removal is applied then.
This works offline, so technicians can clean up the inspection list on site and sync later.
⚠️ Heads up: Any answers already entered for that item on this inspection are discarded when the visit is saved or sent. The item itself stays active on the building and will appear on future inspections.
To Add a Removed Item
Accidentally remove the wrong item? Tap the blue ➕ button in the bottom-right corner and select Add Existing Item.
🖥️ What the Office Sees After the Visit Is Sent
Deactivated items show as inactive on the building in the Inspect Point web app, along with the reason the technician entered. They aren't downloaded to the device for the next visit. Answers the technician entered before deactivating are kept, so nothing recorded on site is lost. The office can still reactivate the item from the web app at any time.
Removed items are taken off that one inspection only. The building record doesn't change, and the item is included on the next inspection as usual.

❓ FAQ
Q: I swipe on an item but don't see Deactivate.
A: Field deactivation isn't turned on for your company yet, or the item is on an external form, where only Remove from Inspection is offered. Contact your admin to turn the setting on.
Q: Does deactivating delete anything?
A: No. The item is marked inactive, not deleted. Its history and any answers entered before deactivating stay on the building record.
Q: A technician removed the wrong item. Can we get it back?
A: Yes. The item is still active on the building, so it can be added back to the inspection with Add Existing Item.
Q: Can technicians deactivate individual devices, like a single extinguisher?
A: These swipe actions are for top-level systems, assets, and groups. Secondary items are managed at the individual device-level.
