The ULC Settings page allows administrators to manage the default ULC code year standards for fire alarm inspections and verifications within their instance. These defaults control which ULC standard is applied when new fire alarm visits are created and dispatched to technicians.
This page also provides visibility into building-level code year overrides and tools to manage them in bulk.
🇨🇦 ULC Settings
Navigate to:
Backend Settings → Inspections → ULC Settings
Only users with administrative access can view or modify these settings.
📅 Default Code Years
ULC Settings allow you to define the default code year used for:
- S536 – Fire Alarm Inspections
- S537 – Fire Alarm Verifications
Each standard is configured independently via the dropdown menus on the ULC Settings page.
Available Code Year Options
The following ULC code years are available for both S536 and S537:
- ULC 2004
- ULC 2013
- ULC 2019
- ULC 2024
⚠️ How Code Year Changes Affect Inspections
Changing the default ULC code year does not automatically update inspections already in progress.
Key behaviors to be aware of:
- The code year is set when a technician pulls a visit to their iOS device
- Existing inspections retain the code year that was active at the time they were pulled
If a Fire Alarm Visit Has NOT Started
- Technicians must refresh their visits on the iOS device to receive the updated code year
If a Fire Alarm Inspection Has Already Started
- The inspection must be removed from the technician’s device
- The visit must then be re-dispatched to apply the new code year
🏢 Building Overrides
Some buildings may use a different ULC code year than the tenant default.
The Building Overrides section provides a summary of:
- Code type (S536 or S537)
- Code year applied
- Number of buildings using that override
This view helps administrators quickly identify where exceptions to the default standards exist.

🧹 Clearing Overrides in Bulk
Administrators can bulk clear building overrides for a specific code type and year directly from this page.
When cleared, affected buildings will revert to the tenant-level default code year
This is especially useful when standardizing code years across your portfolio after a regulatory or operational change.
📝 Key Notes
- Defaults apply to newly dispatched inspections and verifications
- Existing inspections must be removed from the technician’s device then re-dispatched to get the new ULC code year
- Building overrides always take precedence over tenant defaults until cleared
