Buildings in Inspect Point can be assigned to a single Territory (optional). Assigning a Territory helps control visibility and streamlines your workflow by allowing you to filter all backend screens by Territory.
🔗 Feature Overview: Territories
🏢 How to Assign a Territory to a Building
You can assign a Territory to a building either when creating a new building or when editing an existing one. A building's territory can be assigned a few ways:
- When creating a new building (manually) — 🔗 How to Create a New Building
- When editing an existing building (manually) — 🔗 How to Edit an Existing Building
- Via import
📍 Territory Field Location
Whether you are creating or editing a building, the Territory field is located in the Details section of the building screen. Select the appropriate Territory from the list and save your changes.
⚠️ Important Notes
- A building can be assigned only one Territory
- The Territory must already exist in Settings → Company Settings → Territories to appear in the dropdown
- If the Territory has not been created yet, you must create it in Settings before returning to the building to assign it — 🔗 How to Create Territories
➕ Assigning a Territory When Creating a New Building
- Go to the Buildings tab
- Click + New Building
- Enter the building details
- In the Details section, select a Territory from the dropdown
- Finish adding the details
- Click Create when finished
✏️ Assigning a Territory to an Existing Building
- Go to the Buildings tab and locate the building using search or filters
- Click the building name to open it
- Click Edit in the upper-right corner
- In the Details section, select a Territory from the dropdown
- Click Save when finished
📥 Assigning Territories via Import
If you are using the Accounts, Buildings, and Contacts import — 🔗 Importing Accounts, Buildings, & Contacts
- You can assign a Territory using the Territory column in the import file
- The Territory does not need to be pre-created in Settings
- If the Territory does not exist, it will be automatically created during the import
📍 What Assigning a Territory Does
When a Territory is assigned to a building:
- All of the building’s related data — including inspections, proposals, work orders, and account associations — is tied to that Territory
- The Territory is inherited across related records, allowing you to filter consistently throughout the backend
- All backend screens — such as Buildings, Calendar, Inspections, Reports, Proposals, Time Sheets, and Dashboard — support filtering by Territory
- Only users and technicians with access to the Territory can view the building and its associated data — 🔗 How to Set Territory Access for Backend Users & Technicians
🔍 Territory Visibility Example
- All backend tabs have a Territory filter.
- Users and technicians will see only buildings in Territories they have access to.
Example:
-
Jerry’s Hardware – Main Street and Jerry’s Hardware – Broadway are assigned to the Albany County Territory, and linked to the Jerry’s LLC account.
- When filtering by Albany County on the Proposals tab, you will see all proposals associated with buildings in that Territory — including proposals for Jerry’s Hardware – Main Street and Broadway
- When filtering by Albany County on the Accounts tab, you will see Jerry’s LLC, since the account is associated with buildings assigned to that Territory
