Territories can be used to control visibility and access within Inspect Point. Once territories are created, Backend Users and Technicians can be assigned access to one or more territories, which limits what data they can see across the backend. This ensures users only have access to the buildings, inspections, and related records that managers want them to see.
Territory access affects visibility across key areas of Inspect Point, including Buildings, Inspections, Deficiencies, Work Orders, Proposals, and Invoices. Only records associated with a user’s permitted territories will appear.
🔑 Who Can Grant Territory Access
Only Admin users can grant or manage territory access for backend users and technicians. Admins use territories to limit visibility and control what data other users and technicians can see.
All other roles (including Super User, User, and technician roles) can have territory access assigned, but cannot grant or modify territory permissions themselves.
⚠️ Important:
By default, Admin users cannot be restricted to specific territories and will always have access to all territories. If you need to apply territory restrictions to Admin users, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to have this setting enabled.
👨💻 Assigning Territories to Backend Users
To update a backend user's territory access:
Settings → User Management → Backend Users → [User Email]
Scroll to Territory Access and:
- Select a Territory from the dropdown
- Repeat for any additional Territories
- Save
The user will only be able to view buildings and records associated with the Territories selected here.
There are no limit to how many territories can be added. Once satisfied, click Update and Territory Access will be saved.
Back on the Backend User Listing Screen, the column Territory Access displays these changes. All permitted territories will be listed here.
You can manage territory access from this screen as well. To do so, click the three dots in the Territory Access column.
This opens a pop-up where you can manage territory access. Here, add your desired territories and click Update to save your changes.
👤 Assigning Territories to Technicians
Territory assignment determines what they will see in the field. If a technician has the ability to create jobs in the field, they will only see buildings associated with the territories they have access to.
Assignments can be made directly on the Technician listing screen, or within the Technician’s profile under Territory Access.
To update a technician's territory access:
Settings → User Management → Technicians → [Username]
Scroll to Territory Access and:
- Select a Territory from the dropdown
- Repeat for any additional Territories
- Save
