In this article, you'll learn how to import new fire alarm devices to your fire alarm systems.
Step 1: Prepare your import document. The first step is to prepare your import document in a format that our system will accept. The best way to do this is by using our Fire Alarm Device Import Template (attached at the bottom of this article). This template ensures that your data is structured correctly, saving you time.
Start by taking your current device list and match the information in each of the columns with the corresponding columns in our import template.
Remember, the column names in our template may not match your existing device list. Align your data with our column headers as best as you can. Don't change our column headers or their order to prevent errors during the import process.
Step 2: Verify that you have entered information in the only two required fields: Location and Device Type.
Before importing, ensure that all device types are already created in the backend in Settings. If a device type in your import document doesn't exist in Settings, the import will fail.
Also, when adding new devices, leave the Device Number column blank. If you enter a device number, it will cause an error or may overwrite existing information on a device with the same number. Device numbers will be automatically assigned upon import.
Step 3: Add device types and settings. Scroll to the bottom of the navigation menu and click Settings.
Scroll down and click Alarm Device Types.
Ensure that the device types in your import template already exist in your Device type list in Settings. Please note that the alarm device type names are case sensitive, so the device types in the import template must be an exact match with the names set up in Settings.
Step 4: Transfer the information from your current device list to the corresponding columns in the import template.
Step 5: Save your file in a CSV format.
Step 6: Navigate to the building that has the alarm system you want to import devices to, click Alarm Systems and then click Alarm Devices.
Step 7: Click Import Devices. Drag and drop your import file onto this page or click here to select your import file and click Open.
Click Next.
If any required fields are missing or the data is incorrect, rows will be highlighted in light red. Use the filter option to show only the invalid rows.
Use the Find and Replace feature to quickly clean up your data.
Step 8: Once there are no more invalid rows, click Submit to import your data.
The devices should appear in the device list in a few seconds, depending on how many devices you are importing.
