Do you inspect Edwards Alarm Systems? Inspect Point now allows for the import of EST4 XML files into your instance. The EST4 file is available for download from the panel (if it supports EST4) when you are on your PC and connected directly to the panel.
To do so, you must first map the device type from your EST4 file to your alarm device name in Inspect Point. Once this is done, you can import the file. This article outlines this process.
Note: This article assumes you already have an alarm system and device created on at least one building. If not, you can learn how to add alarm systems and other inspection items here.
Mapping Device Types
There are thousands of things other than device types in EST4 files, so we only want to import the things that will be inspected, like pull stations, notification devices, smoke detectors, etc.
Therefore, in order for EST4 files to import successfully, a device type must be mapped from Inspect Point to the EST4 file.
This is a one-time process that is currently manual, but one we hope to automate in the near future.
To begin this mapping, navigate to your Fire Alarms Settings at the bottom of the Settings tab.
Once here, click Alarm Device Types.
Next, click Edit on an existing Alarm Device or add a new one you’d like to map.
From here, find the field titled “Edwards est4 device type.” This section here is what needs to match the EST4 file you’d like to import.
In our example below, the Device Type in the EST4 file is “Pull,” so this is what is entered in the field on Inspect Point.
Once the device has been “mapped,” you may change the Type Name to something more user-friendly. In our example above, “Pull” has been renamed to “Manual Pull Station.”
Click Update at the bottom of the screen to save your changes.
Importing EST4 Files
With your alarm devices now mapped, you are ready to import your EST4 files.
To begin, navigate to Alarm Systems in your desired building by clicking the Alarm Systems tab.
Next, click the Import button on the right side of the Alarm Systems information.
Here you will see the list of available imports, including EST4.
Click Choose File on the EST4 section to select the file you’d like to import. Once chosen, you will see the file’s name appear.
Next, click Import EST4 File to begin the import.
A modal will then appear that explains what could and could not be imported. If a device type was mapped, it will import. If it wasn’t mapped, then it will appear in red like in the example below.
If you’re pleased with your results, click Submit for Import.
You will then be brought back to the Building Detail page, where this confirmation message will be displayed at the top of the screen:
Once uploaded, you can see the new alarm devices at your building.
