🗂️ Material & Service Types
Material & Service Types help organize your items for easier setup and selection when adding them to proposals, work orders, or invoices.
They make it simple to locate the right material or service from your Price Book — so you don’t have to manually type out line items or details each time.
⚠️ Important Notes
- Every material or service item created must be assigned a type.
- If adding items manually, types must be created before adding new materials or services.
- By default, your instance comes preloaded with Service Types only.
- All Material Types must be created manually.
- You can also add additional Service Types if needed.
- If importing, types can be defined directly in the import file — you don’t need to add them in advance.
- Preloaded Service Types cannot be edited or deleted, but you can edit the name of any user-added types.
➕ To Add a New Type
- Go to Settings → Price Book → Materials & Services Types
- You’ll see a list of active types
- Click ➕ New Material & Service Type
- Under Category, select Material or Service
- Enter a Name
- Click Save
Repeat as needed for each type you’d like to create.
✏️ To Edit a Type Name
You can edit the name of any user-created Material or Service Type at any time.
- Go to Settings → Price Book → Materials & Services Types
- Locate the type you’d like to update
- Click the Edit button
- Change the Type Name
- Click Update
💡 Tip: System-provided (preloaded) Service Types cannot be edited or renamed, only user-added types can be modified.
📋 Using Material & Service Types
Once types have been added, they will appear in the Type dropdown when manually adding a new material or service.
⚠️ Important:
- You cannot manually add any Material items until at least one Material Type has been created.
- If you only have Service Types in your list, the Material option will not appear when adding new items.
