Within Inspect Point, you can add fixed-price items which are Materials & Services which can then be used on proposals, work orders and invoices. This is managed in your Price Book.
The Price Book is where you create and manage the materials and services available throughout your Inspect Point instance.
Keeping your Price Book organized and up to date ensures accurate pricing, consistent item descriptions, and a more efficient quoting process.
⚙️ How Materials & Services Work
Materials and services are managed in your backend Settings under the Price Book section.
There are two main parts:
- Material & Service Types – categories that define and organize your items
- Materials & Services – the actual items that will appear when building proposals, work orders, or invoices
These items are used across proposals, work orders, invoices.
Materials & Services can be added by technicians in the field while completing work orders, and — if enabled — can be added to inspections as Completed or Proposed.
🗂️ Material & Service Types
Material & Service Types help organize your items for easier setup and selection when adding them to proposals, work orders, or invoices. They make it simple to locate the right material or service from your Price Book — so you don’t have to manually type out line items or details each time.
⚠️ Important:
- Every material or service item created must be assigned a type. If adding items manually, types must be created first.
- By default, your instance comes preloaded with Service Types only. All Material Types must be created, along with any additional Service Types needed.
- If importing, types can be defined directly in the import file — you don’t need to add them in advance.
➕ To Add a New Type
- Go to Settings → Price Book → Materials & Services Types
- You’ll see a list of active types
- Click ➕ New Material & Service Type
- Under Category, select Material or Service
- Enter a Name
- Click Save
Repeat as needed for each type you’d like to create.

➕ Adding Materials & Services
You can add materials and services in two ways:
Option 1: Manually
Go to Settings → Price Book → Materials & Services → + New Item
Select whether the item is a Material or Service, assign the Type, and complete the remaining details.
Option 2: Import
For bulk updates or new setups, use the import option.
Materials and services are imported separately, and you can include types directly within the import file — you don’t need to add them first.
🔁 Updating Materials & Services
You can easily update existing materials and services directly in your settings — or make bulk updates by exporting and reimporting your list.
For example, if pricing for a specific manufacturer increases by 2%, easily export your materials, filter the file, adjust the pricing, and reimport the updated file. Your Price Book will update automatically to reflect the changed.
💰 Using Materials & Services
Once your items are added, they can be used across multiple areas in Inspect Point:
- Proposals – Add items with optional markups or discounts, and group them for clarity.
- Work Orders & Invoices – Include materials and services to capture accurate billing and job details.
- In the Field – Materials & Services can be added by technicians in the field while completing work orders, and — if enabled — can be added to inspections as Completed or Proposed.
