Your Inspect Point instance comes preloaded based on the types of inspections your organization performs. However, not all items are included by default — for example, Fire Extinguisher manufacturers or custom alarm device types unique to your organization. What is displayed on this screen will depend on your organization's configurations.
Review the Equipment section and the Fire Alarms sections under Settings and add or adjust any device types, or naming conventions to align with how your team operates.
Equipment
Equipment in Inspect Point is a flexible feature designed to capture information that goes beyond the standard systems and assets built into the platform. Think of it as a configurable “catch‑all” that allows you to track and report on additional items specific to your inspections.
- Equipment Types - Equipment Types are configured in the Settings, and define the kinds of equipment your organization inspects. Once created, these types can be added to buildings and included in inspections, allowing technicians to record details, complete inspection questions, and generate reports specific to each equipment type.
- Equipment Statuses - Equipment Statuses allow you to define the condition or state of a piece of equipment. These statuses appear as selectable options in a dropdown menu for all types of equipment, providing consistency across your inspections and reports.

Fire Alarms
Within the Fire Alarms category, you’ll find three configuration options that help ensure accuracy.
- Alarm Device Catalogs - Alarm Device Catalogs group similar alarm devices together to streamline field data entry. Each catalog can include details such as Manufacturer, Model, Sensitivity Range, and Sensitivity Test Method, which will automatically populate in the mobile app when a technician adds a matching device.
🔗 How to Create an Alarm Device Catalog
- Alarm Device Types - Your instance includes a set of default alarm device types commonly used in the industry (e.g., Smoke Detector, Duct Detector, Heat Detector). You can add, edit, or remove types here to match your organization’s terminology or inspection needs.
🔗 How to Create and Manage Alarm Device Types
-
Control Panel Types - Control Panel Types can be added or edited to align with the panels your technicians encounter in the field.
Fire Extinguishers
The Fire Extinguishers section allows you to manage extinguisher types, manufacturers, weights, and your swap list. These settings ensure technicians have accurate information when performing inspections or managing extinguishers in the field.
- Fire Extinguisher Types - Your Inspect Point instance comes preloaded with common extinguisher types (e.g., ABC, CO₂, K-Class). You can always add new types, edit existing ones, or remove any you do not service to align with your company’s offerings and terminology.
-
Fire Extinguisher Makes - Manufacturers (“Makes”) are not preloaded and must be added manually.
Once a make is created, it becomes available for all extinguishers across your instance — no need to re-add it.
🔗 Managing Fire Extinguisher Types and Makes
-
Fire Extinguisher Weights - Your instance includes a preloaded list of standard extinguisher weights.
If you service specialty units or unique sizes, you can easily add additional weights here. - Fire Extinguisher Swap List - The Swap List helps you track extinguishers that are swapped out, replaced, or loaned to customers. From the Settings, you can manually add, import, view and edit the Swap List.

Fire Exit Signs
The Fire Exit Signs section allows you to manage both sign types and manufacturers. These settings define the options available when technicians add or inspect exit signs in the field, ensuring data accuracy and consistency across your instance.
- Fire Exit Sign Types - Your instance comes preloaded with common exit sign types (e.g., Emergency Light, Exit Light, Combination Unit). You can add your own types, edit existing ones, or remove any that do not apply to your organization’s services.
- Fire Exit Sign Manufacturers - Manufacturers are not preloaded and must be manually added in the backend. Once a manufacturer is added, it will appear throughout your account wherever exit sign manufacturers are referenced.
