🔢 Overview
Work Order numbering keeps your service jobs organized and easy to track. Inspect Point automatically assigns numbers sequentially, starting at WO #1, but you can customize this to align with your company’s existing numbering structure.
⚙️ Setting the Starting Work Order Number
- From the backend, go to Settings → Service → Work Order Numbering
- Enter your desired starting number (for example, 1000)
- Click Save
Once saved, the most recent work order number will be updated to match this new value, and all future work orders will continue sequentially.
Example:
- If your most recent work order is WO #10 and you change the setting to WO# 1000, that same work order becomes WO #1000
- Future work orders will continue as WO# 1001, WO# 1002, etc.
- You cannot revert numbering to a lower value or reuse an existing number
🧾 Changing a Work Order Number Manually
When creating a new work order, you can also edit the Work Order # field manually before saving.
However, once you do this, future work orders will continue sequentially from the new number you entered.
Example:
- Your system currently ends at WO #1000
- You create a new work order and manually change it to WO #5000
- The next work order created will be WO #5001
đź’ˇ Best Practice
It’s best to finalize your numbering format before go-live to avoid renumbering existing work orders.
If you need to align numbering with another system, set the starting number to match your current highest record before creating your first work order.
