🤖 Field Assistant Overview
Applies to: Inspect Point Assistant (IPA) — Field Assistant, iOS app
Requires: Inspect Point Assistant subscription (office + iOS seats)
IPA Field Assistant is available in the Inspect Point iOS app, giving field technicians a way to ask plain-English questions and complete certain tasks without digging through app menus or calling the office.
Ask the Field Assistant about your schedule, assigned buildings, devices, service history, and company procedures, or use it to log time and update inspection records, right from the field.
🛠️ How It Works
The Field Assistant runs inside the Inspect Point iOS app. Tap IP Assistant and type or speak your question in plain English. The assistant understands job-level questions and returns answers scoped to your own assigned work.
Access to Information
The Field Assistant only shows you information tied to your own access and assigned work. It cannot be used to look up another technician's schedule, or back-office information such as invoices, billing, or pricing.
If the Field Assistant doesn't have the information needed to answer a question, it will let you know rather than guessing.
Confirming Changes
Questions that only retrieve information, like checking your schedule or looking up a device, do not require confirmation.
When you ask the Field Assistant to change something in Inspect Point, it will show you the details before anything is saved so you can review them first. This applies to actions like updating an inspection record or resolving a deficiency.
Nothing is written silently, you always confirm before a change is saved.
Working with Synced Data
Some information available to the Field Assistant depends on data synced to the iOS app. If you're working offline or the Field Assistant determines the available information may not be current, it will tell you rather than presenting a potentially outdated answer as current. This is by design, it's better to know the data is uncertain than to act on something stale. When possible, sync the app and ask again.
Company Procedures and SOPs
The Field Assistant can answer questions using your company's own uploaded documentation. When an answer is based on one of your company's documents, the Field Assistant names the source so you can reference the original if needed.
The Field Assistant isn't intended as a general NFPA or fire-code reference. Iif you ask an NFPA code question, it will let you know that's outside what it can answer and redirect you. It's built for job-level information and your company's own uploaded content, not general regulatory reference.
The Field Assistant won't fabricate an answer meaning if it doesn't have the data, it will say so. But AI answers aren't a substitute for your own judgment: verify anything that affects a compliance decision using your company's approved resources and procedures.
💬 What Can I Ask the Field Assistant?
Technicians can use the Field Assistant to:
- Ask about your schedule and assigned work
- Look up building, device, and service information
- Look up company SOPs
- Log time on inspections and work orders
You can ask questions the same way you'd ask a coworker. For example:
"Which extinguishers at my buildings are due for hydro?"
"What's the alarm panel at this building?"
"What's our procedure for testing backflow preventers?"
"Log 2.5 hours on this inspection."
📱 Using the Field Assistant
Open the Inspect Point iOS app and tap IP Assistant to start a conversation. Type or speak your question in plain English.
The Assistant uses the context available to you in the field. While working on an inspection, you can refer to "this building" or "this inspection" instead of naming the record. You can also ask follow-up questions within the same conversation, and the Field Assistant will use what you asked earlier to understand what you mean.
🚀 Getting Started
- From the mobile app, select IP Assistant.
