Per NFPA 25 and 72 guidelines, tag colors are recommended on sprinkler and alarm systems as a means of flagging the overall health of the system. This article covers how to add these questions in the backend, complete them in the field, and view them on the report.
Adding Tag Color Questions in the Backend
To add a system-level tag color in Inspect Point, you must first create a system-level tag color question. Once added, this will appear on the iPad as a multiple choice question, with each option being a tag color created in the backend. We’ll first cover creating the tag color question, then explain how to add tag colors themselves.
To create a tag color question, navigate to Settings -> Inspection Questions -> System/Asset Questions.
Next, click New System Question at the top-right of the screen.
Here, add the question information like the text, code year, and frequency. When you reach Question Type, select Tag Color from the dropdown.
Next, select the type of system and if the question will be for Wet, Dry, Preaction or Deluge.
On the report, this question will have its dedicated section called "Tag Color" at the top of each system's information. However, when making the question in the backend, a section must still be added. You can either select from existing sections or add a new one.
On the report, the tag color will display in both the dedicated "Tag Color" section or the one chosen in the backend. In the picture below, Tag Color has its own dedicated section on this alarm system, but also appears in the Notifications That Testing is Complete section later on in the report, since this was the chosen section in the backend.
If adding to an alarm system, there is no option to create a new section from this screen. You'll need to add the Tag Color question to the most applicable section from the dropdown. However, like with sprinkler systems, the tag color will still appear in its own dedicated "Tag Color" section.
Once you’ve made your selections, click Save, and the question will be created.
Creating Tag Colors
Now that the tag color question has been created, you’ll need to create the tag colors themselves. On the iPad, these will be the choices available on the tag color question.
To add tag colors, navigate to Settings -> Inspections -> Tag Colors.
Here, you’ll see your existing tag colors as well as the option to add new ones. To add a new tag color, click the “+ New Tag Color” button.
Next, name the tag according to the level of deficiency (critical, impairment, etc.), and select the color.
Once all the information has been added, click Save, and you’ll be brought back to the list of tag colors.
Note: You can add multiple tags with the same color. For example, the red tag color could be labeled as Impairment for alarm systems, but a separate red tag color could be labeled Non-Critical for sprinkler systems. To this point, we recommended creating a set of tag colors for alarm systems and a set for sprinkler systems.
On this screen you also have the ability to re-position each tag color, indicated by the six dots to the left of each tag color.
Positioning allows for each color to print in order of deficiency on the report. For example, if you’d like the Red tag color to appear highest on the report, you would drag it to the top of the list. After repositioning, the order of the tag colors will save automatically.
Tag Colors in the Field and Backend
With tag color questions, colors themselves, and positioning added, we’re ready to begin an inspection.
To begin, navigate to either your alarm or sprinkler inspection. Next, locate the tag color question you created, and tap Select Tag Color.
A dropdown menu with your list of tag colors will appear. Select the appropriate tag color and it will save.
Continue adding tag colors to alarm and/or sprinkler systems as needed. Once satisfied, send the inspection back to the office for review.
To view the answers in the backend, navigate to the Inspection Detail page. Click the # of Answers button.
Locate the systems and you’ll see the tag color questions listed. The color itself won’t display, but the label will.
Viewing the Report
Tag colors are displayed in several areas of the report. The first area is in the Inspection Summary. Here, an inspection-level tag color and tag color for each system are displayed.
Note: Inspection Summary must be enabled in order to view tag colors here.
The inspection-level tag color displays the highest level of deficiency on the inspection. In this example, one system was labeled as Impairment, another as Critical, and another as Non-Critical. Because Impairment is the highest level of deficiency, this is checked off for the inspection-level tag color.
Tag colors for each system are shown in the tag color column in the Inspection Summary. These tags don’t apply to general questions or alarm/sprinkler devices, so there is nothing in these columns.
Lastly, tag colors are shown at the top of each individual system as well. With all three areas on the report, customers have a holistic view of the health of each system and the overall inspection.
